Interim Director of Data Science, ML and AI
£800 - £1000 per day (with flexibility) 6 months initially, FTSE 100 business, London
We are seeking an Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science leader and expert practitioner to envision and drive the next stage in the formation of a world-class AI capability at a Global FTSE 100 market leading organisation.
The team is well established with multiple internationally connected hubs of AI experts in anomaly detection, data mining, deep learning, computer vision, NLP and more and is tasked with finding value through prototypes that either fail forward fast or transition to become their next generation business portfolio.
Your role is to expand the function to become a recognised world-leader in AI.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the point of consolidation for the application of AI to develop solutions for real world, large scale problems.
- Lead and build-out a world class AI, data science & research organisation to develop industry leading algorithms that deliver material business value.
- End to end ownership of machine learning systems deployable across various projects including data pipelines, model generation, and training and inference engines.
- Advance the international recognition of the organisation as a thought leader in AI and an active participant in commercial and academic dialogue.
- Recruit, hire, mentor, and lead technology experts and developers with cutting edge expertise
- Serve as a corporate focal point for guiding the selection of applied math, Data Science, Machine Learning and AI techniques that offer the most promise for solving a diverse set of commercial problems and opportunities.
- Challenge current best thinking, test theories, evaluate feature concepts and iterate rapidly.
Experience & Qualifications:
- A flourishing global network of commercial and technical experts that you are able to leverage for commercial gain.
- Extensive commercial experience of turning AI into commercial gain which has grown market share or developed new lines of business. Have demonstrated your ability to unlock value by building a substantial line (from a standing start) of new revenue for your organisation (£10M+)
- You are recognised as a significant contributor to the AI community
- On one or more assignments, that built-out an AI or advanced analytics group that became the engine of growth for a company.
- A PhD in a STEM related field would be desirable
- An expert practitioner that has achieved significant commercial value through the application of AI : Natural Language Understanding, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Algorithmic Foundations of Optimization, Data Mining or Machine Intelligence.
- Significant exposure to statistical analysis techniques and a deep knowledge of big data processing systems such as spark, data mining tools such as R and Python, machine learning, and data analytics.
- Demonstrated initiative and strong technical leadership skills, with proven ability to build, nurture and lead-from-the-front multiple development teams that have designed, built and deployed commercial applications.
