A well-known brand based in Scotland are continuing their strategy to modernise and become a more product centric organisation as they strive to deliver an ever increasing service of excellence to their millions of customers. After an executive review, the group wish to add to their technology executive with the appointment of a Head of Strategy and Architecture with a strong innovation focus. Reporting into the Group CIO, this role will be accountable for driving the definition of the overall IT strategy and technology plan. The position will act as the custodian of the newly devised strategic roadmap and the creation and management of a rolling three year IT technology plan for their wider business. Additionally you will work across the wider group as a key influencer in driving the corner stone of their technology vision – “product-centricity”.

This position will be a high profile recruit, working as a critical part of the Technology leadership team. Whilst you will have direct responsibility for a relatively small team you will have a wider remit to engage with the broader architecture and solutions community and to drive standards and best practice as you work together to embed the new customer centric, Technology blueprint.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Take full ownership of the technology strategy and architecture ensuring best in class innovation and emerging technology adoption to ensure competitive edge
  • Lead and drive forward the Architecture and Technology planning function through the shaping and optimisation of key areas as part of the overall IT improvement plan
  • Accountable for setting standards, governance and policies in line with the overarching technology plan
  • Providing and communicating a clear technology vision to all levels within the business
  • Together with the broader business play a leading role in driving the revenue and profitability of the business by innovating solutions to deliver a product centric model.
  • Define principles, standards and patterns for the wider Technology function.
  • Develop and build strategic relationships with both internal senior business stakeholders and external parties (software vendors, research companies, industry bodies, and strategic partners) to ensure the group is attuned to the very latest in emerging technology
  • Work with engineering and delivery to ensure the product launched is fit for purpose and meets business expectations.

Person Requirements:

  • Degree educated (or similar). Ideally post graduate qualification in a related discipline.
  • Outstanding experience at the most senior level with Technology strategy and innovation.
  • Experience of enhancing and owning a Technology strategic plan with strong influencing skills to enable organisational buy-in and implementation
  • Extensive experience of applying industry recognised architectural frameworks such as TOGAF across complex organisational estates. Awareness of Agile would be a strong value add.
  • Conceptual and strategic thinker who is able to work at an executive level to define strategy, influence and lead change.
  • Ability to operate in fast paced environments where uncertainty and change is the norm, a pragmatist who doesn’t lose sight of the goal.
  • Ability and credibility to inspire a wider technology team – from s/w engineering to architecture.
  • Impeccable communication and leadership skills able to buy in teams and take them on a journey of growth and success.
  • Energetic, persevering and capable of driving results under pressure and too demanding timescales.
  • Resilient. Able to cope effectively with pressure and a demanding environment.

Although the office HQ is based in Scotland, 2-3 days on site will be sufficient with a couple of days home working.
