Are you a technically experienced IT System Administrator interested in providing critical support for world leading technologies?
The opportunity
Queen Mary University London are looking for a bright, motivated and enthusiastic IT Engineer to join the Research Applications team to help maintain and support essential enterprise IT services.
The role
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with current and evolving technologies and support a diverse range of solutions. The research team are committed to developing your knowledge and skills, they will provide exposure to devops, CI, automation and delivering a platform as a service to a talented team of researchers.
You will work and engage with colleagues across IT and provide support for the researchers across the University who are using the services and facilities provided by the ITS Research group.
What you have
•Red Hat Engineer Certification would be desirable
•Linux Professional Institute Certification and ITIL foundation qualification would be advantageous.
Who you’ll be
Providing technical support to academics & specialist HPC platforms, through individual support and workshops. You will effectively communicate technical concepts to customers both technical & no technical, delivering technical solutions that support critical research areas & innovation.
You’ll have expertise in some or all of the following areas and demonstrate a real interest in technology, emerging trends and new solutions.
•Strong practical experience in Linux server administration including demonstrable in-depth knowledge across IT Services
•Experience of configuration, support and administration of RedHat or Ubuntu based enterprise systems
•A customer centric approach to technical support, with a focus on quality
In addition, skills and experience in the following areas would be advantageous.
•HPC/HTC cluster service
•Version control-based workflow using Git, vagrant, Jenkins
•Linux container technology (e.g. Singularity, Docker) including building and running containers
•Virtualisation technology e.g. VMware, OpenStack, KVM
•Proficiency in programming in python, bash, or other suitable high-level languages
•Configuration management systems such as Puppet
