Senior Systems Administrator, Bristol, permanent role with salary £42,000-£47,000
The Platforms team within IT Services is seeking to recruit a Linux Senior Systems Administrator in the Server Systems Team. This role has responsibility for the development, support and maintenance of the University’s mission critical IT infrastructure. This role will have full Senior Systems Administration responsibility for the physical and virtual estate, including input into architecture, strategy, design and implementation. Ideally, you would have experience with configuration management systems.
This would suit a critical thinker that is motivated and enthusiastic about working in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
It is critical that you understand the concepts and problems of enterprise level IT infrastructure and services, large scale platforms and remote administration, working with many levels of complexity. Ideally you should possess an ability to innovate solutions for the benefit of the organisation as a whole. You must have demonstratable experience and knowledge of administering Linux or Unix systems. You should have experience of scalable and resilient systems having managed multiple servers in a complex environment. You must be committed to delivering an excellent level of customer service for staff and students while also meeting the organisation's strategic goals and financial objectives.
Essential Skills:
- Linux Administration within an enterprise environment (RHEL, CentOS)
- Virtualisation Skills (Hyper-V preferred)
- Apache Administration
- Security and patching best practices
- MPIO and iSCSI configuration and best practices
Desired Skills:
- Configuration management (Puppet/Git preferred)
- Solaris
- Windows Server Administration
Suitable applicants must have a degree relevant to IT Services or vocational experience which demonstrates equivalent professional development. ITILv3 Foundation Diploma is desirable.
