Celebrating Earth Day
Sixty years ago, on April 12 1961, mankind achieved something incredible – we sent a human into space. And what Yuri Gagarin saw when he looked through that small window of his spacecraft into the dark, silent vacuum around him, took his breath away:
“Orbiting Earth in the spaceship, I saw how beautiful our planet is. People, let us preserve and increase this beauty, not destroy it."
Here on Earth it is sometimes a little hard to get such a grand perspective. But every year since 1970 Earth Day has given us a chance to pause, think, and take action to help preserve our beautiful planet.
So on this day I wanted to share three messages.
Firstly, to encourage everyone to think about our actions and what steps we can take to help our planet. Many of these are well-known, but I do recommend visiting Earth Day’s website, which explains it much better than I ever could and includes links to live conferences happening today, as well as wider resources.
Secondly, to help raise awareness around the incredible things that tech companies are doing to promote sustainability Harvey Nash Group have published six fascinating podcast conversations as part of our “Insert Title Here” series.
Thirdly, at Harvey Nash Group we have a role to play. Across our company there are many great initiatives, but we want to do more. That’s why over the next period we will be taking the very best of what we are already doing and building on that to deliver clear actions which support our colleagues and the environment. Watch this space.
Have a great Earth Day.
