Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer (Security)

Harvey Nash's public sector client is recruiting an experienced Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer to support a major security uplift programme within a large, enterprise-scale environment. You'll work as part of a dedicated cyber security team, providing technical expertise across cloud, infrastructure, and security remediation initiatives.

This role focuses on delivering improvements aligned to security accreditation and assurance frameworks, including Cyber Essentials, the Cyber Assessment Framework, and Zero Trust principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply security standards (Cyber Essentials, CAF, NIST, NCSC) to define remediation actions.
  • Lead or support security improvements across Azure and on‑prem environments.
  • Configure, optimise, and manage Microsoft Defender and related endpoint, identity, and cloud security tools.
  • Identify and report security non‑compliance, recommending technical fixes.
  • Prepare Change Requests and implementation plans for approval boards.
  • Implement and test security solutions, documenting outcomes for audit and traceability.
  • Collaborate with engineering, architecture, development, and operations teams to resolve security issues.
  • Contribute to automation and SecOps improvements via scripting, pipelines, and IaC.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and handover materials for BAU teams.
  • Support continuous improvement of security assurance and configuration baselines.

Technical Environment

  • Cloud: Azure (identity, security, monitoring, automation, compliance), including M365, Power Platform, Dynamics.
  • Enterprise Systems: Key Vault, Conditional Access, EntraID, Intune, AD, PKI, Public DNS, GPO.
  • Infrastructure: Windows Server, Hyper‑V, VMware, hybrid networking and storage.
  • Security Tools: Defender, Qualys.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Significant experience managing enterprise-scale digital systems.
  • Deep understanding of networking and systems management.
  • Proven track record delivering security or service improvements.
  • Able to self-start and drive change through to completion.
  • Effective knowledge-sharing and ability to hand over to BAU teams.
  • Experience contributing to cyber security certification projects.

Desirable

  • Experience with penetration test remediation and vulnerability management.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust approaches.
  • Familiarity with incident detection/response processes.
  • Experience integrating risk/security data into reporting or automation tools.
  • Microsoft engineering certifications, MCSE, or ITIL certification.
