IT Systems Engineer - West London (InsideIR35)

Harvey Nash has partnered with a well‑established client of ours to recruit an experienced IT Systems Engineer on an initial 3-month contract. This is a hands‑on infrastructure role, focused on ensuring the reliability, security, and resilience of critical IT systems.

You'll operate as a senior technical escalation point, supporting and improving core infrastructure services while contributing to infrastructure projects, resilience initiatives, and continuous improvement across the wider group technology function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the availability, performance, and resilience of core infrastructure services across on‑premises and Microsoft Azure environments.
  • Administer and improve VMware virtualised environments, including capacity planning, optimisation, and resilience design.
  • Manage and support Windows Server and Active Directory, including Group Policy, DNS, authentication, and identity integrations.
  • Support and develop Azure infrastructure services, including virtual machines, networking, monitoring, backup, and recovery.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex incidents, supporting diagnosis, resolution, and stakeholder communication.
  • Own the operation and continuous improvement of network and security services, including Cisco networking and Fortinet firewalls.
  • Support backup, disaster recovery, and resilience planning, including testing and improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on‑call rota, providing out‑of‑hours support for critical incidents when required.

About You

  • Practical experience supporting Microsoft Azure infrastructure and hybrid environments.
  • Strong hands‑on experience across VMware, Windows Server, and Active Directory.
  • Solid knowledge of Cisco networking (LAN/WAN, switching, routing) and Fortinet firewalls.
  • Strong troubleshooting and fault‑finding capability across infrastructure, network, and security services.
  • Experience working in multi‑site, operationally critical environments where uptime and controlled change are essential.
  • Good understanding of infrastructure security principles and service resilience.
  • Comfortable working autonomously, while contributing knowledge and best practice across a wider group IT function.
  • Any exposure to automation, FinOps, or SecOps concepts would be advantageous.
