Service Designer - NHS Project - 6 Month Contract

We are looking for an experienced Service Designer to join a major NHS programme on an initial 6-month contract.

You'll be working as part of a multidisciplinary team to understand current services, identify pain points and help design improved end-to-end experiences for users, patients and internal stakeholders.

This is a hands-on service design role where you'll take insight from research, operational teams and stakeholders and turn it into clear service maps, journeys, concepts and recommendations for improvement.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Mapping current and future-state services across complex user journeys
  • Creating service blueprints, journey maps, process maps and other service design artefacts
  • Identifying pain points, gaps, duplication and opportunities to improve services
  • Working closely with users, operational teams and stakeholders to understand needs and challenges
  • Planning and facilitating workshops, co-design sessions and stakeholder sessions
  • Collaborating with User Researchers to incorporate qualitative and quantitative insight into service design
  • Working alongside Product Managers, Business Analysts, Delivery Managers and technical teams
  • Translating complex requirements and organisational constraints into practical service improvements
  • Supporting the design of accessible and inclusive services
  • Testing service concepts and iterating designs based on feedback and evidence
  • Helping teams understand the wider end-to-end service rather than focusing only on individual touchpoints
  • Communicating service design thinking clearly to senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting teams to embed user-centred design principles throughout delivery
  • Working within NHS, government or GDS-style delivery environments

We're looking for someone with:

  • Strong commercial experience as a Service Designer
  • Experience designing complex end-to-end services
  • Excellent facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong experience of service mapping and service blueprinting
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary agile teams
  • A strong understanding of user-centred design and accessibility
  • Previous NHS, healthcare or wider public sector experience would be highly desirable
  • Experience working with GDS standards or government digital services would be beneficial
