Creating a Cyber Savvy Workforce - Leeds Digital Festival
The Leeds Digital Festival is a dynamic and vibrant annual event that serves as a focal point for the tech community in the heart of Yorkshire. This festival, celebrated throughout the city of Leeds, is a unique congregation of professionals, innovators, and enthusiasts who are passionate about technology and digital transformation.
This year, the festival, sponsored by Harvey Nash and Nash Tech, spanned over several days and featured seminars, workshops, and interactive sessions, providing a platform for individuals and organisations to explore the latest trends, exchange ideas, and forge meaningful connections; making it an essential and eagerly anticipated event on the tech calendar.
During the event, Charlie Deacon (Senior Consultant) and Natalie Dobson (Director), based in our Leeds office, attended a Cyber Savvy Workforce discussion expertly hosted by Jungle IT. The session was led by Laura Kaung, a Cyber Security Manager for Jungle IT, where she discussed how to create a better cyber culture within the workplace.
During her presentation, Laura showcased how many times passwords have been hacked, this year alone - and the numbers were shocking! She also presented a video, which detailed how the MGM in Las Vegas was subject to its infamous cyber attack. It was extremely insightful to learn from her expertise, as she advised us on how to handle different situations when being asked for potentially sensitive information over the phone.
Our main key takeaway from the session was:
An organisations’ employees are the first line of defence in the case of a cyber attack. Therefore, it is critical that organisations empower their team to be confident and diligent when dealing with request for information from others.
We were extremely proud to have sponsored this year’s Leeds Digital Festival, and also attend many of the seminars, workshops and interactive sessions throughout.
