Role: Solutions Architect

Client: Large UK Government Department

IR35 Status: Inside

Day Rate: up to £500.00 (DOE)

Location: Hybrid (Ad Hoc Travel Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle)

Contract Length: 6 Months +

Start Date: ASAP

Clearance: Active SC Clearance preferred (proof of expiry required). Candidates without active clearance must be SC Eligible and have no extended travel outside the UK (over 30 days) in the past 5 years.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to join a major UK Government Department on a high-profile programme. This role requires someone who can take a strategic view across multiple software systems and business processes, identify interdependencies, and design high-level software solutions that align with organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain solution architectures across complex business and technology landscapes.
  • Analyse existing systems and processes to identify integration points and dependencies.
  • Design high-level software solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture principles.
  • Lead on architecture governance, ensuring compliance with standards and best practices.
  • Engage and influence senior stakeholders, providing clear architectural guidance and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with delivery teams to ensure solutions are implemented effectively.
  • Ensure designs adhere to GDS (Government Digital Service) guidelines and security requirements.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Solutions Architect within large-scale, complex environments.
  • Strong background in software solutions architecture (not network/infrastructure).
  • Demonstrable experience in architecture governance and stakeholder management at senior levels.
  • Ability to work across multiple systems and business processes, designing integrated solutions.
  • Familiarity with GDS guidelines and UK Government standards (highly desirable).
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel to client sites as required (Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle).
  • SC Clearance: Active preferred; SC Eligible mandatory with residency requirements met.
