DevOps Engineer - Glasgow - Public Sector - Outside IR35

Day Rate - up to £610

Duration - 6 months with a view to extend

Harvey Nash's Client are hiring a contract DevOps Engineer, you will join a team focused on building a cloud based platform. You will be expected to be embedded into the Digital team as well as working with the other members of the business.

The Client have highlighted they are specifically looking for a candidate to have experience is with strong infrastructure experience, specifically within a multi account AWS environment and a Kubernetes/EKS based platform that is fully managed through Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Candidates must have hands on experience both building and operating secure infrastructure. They should be able to clearly describe previous work, including their level of ownership, responsibilities, and the scope of their involvement on those projects.

Responsibilities

  • Implement high-level technical requirements in a reliable, scalable and performant way
  • provide coaching and mentoring to more junior colleagues
  • ensure due technical consideration is given to make processes repeatable, scalable and secure
  • have deep technical knowledge and experience in DevOps environments, providing support to delivery teams and solving complex problems
  • Attend all associated Agile ceremonies and make use of collaborative tooling (Slack, Confluence, Jira)
  • Be proactive on identifying improvements.
  • Be transparent and collaborative when making decisions

Skills & Experience Required

  • 5+ years in a hands-on platform engineer / devops role working at a senior level
  • Expert level Kubernetes infrastructure build and operate experience
  • Demonstrable experience building secure solutions on Kubernetes at scale, ideally using AWS EKS
  • Ability to contribute to architecture roadmap for business area through leading and participating in Proof Of Concept (POC)/prototyping initiatives
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience designing, documenting and presenting secure solutions to stakeholders
  • Experience implementing service mesh technologies (Istio)
  • Experience building secure solutions using Hashicorp Terraform
  • Worked in a GitOps-driven environment
  • Able to provide ongoing and appropriate mentorship for DevOps Engineers
  • Be eligible for SC level Security Clearance

Significant practical experience and able to evidence detailed technical knowledge of:

  • AWS technologies (Compute, Networking, Security, Organisations, Toolsets), Linux, Containers and container orchestration, Helm, Terraform, Git.
  • Managing infrastructure as code, catering for multiple environment differences
  • Configuration Management
  • Secrets Management
  • TLS, mTLS
  • Authentication technologies.

Some experience with:

  • Coding in Python
  • Interacting with APIs
  • Production support of Java applications.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working on AWS Cloud migration projects
  • Experience with any or all of: Terragrunt & ArgoCD
  • Experience supporting the build, deployment production support of Java applications
  • Solid understanding of common security principles
  • Vulnerability scanning & reporting experience
  • Able to demonstrate they have worked in regulated environments (eg, finance, government)
  • Demonstrable experience of identifying manual processes suitable for automation
  • Existing SC clearance
