Principal Data Engineer - Leeds (Hybrid)

We're looking for a Principal Data Engineer to drive technical direction, uplift engineering standards, and deliver high‑quality Azure data solutions that make a real impact.
The Role
- Build and deliver secure, scalable data pipelines using Azure (ADF, Databricks, Lakehouse).
- Lead engineering standards and mentor senior engineers.
- Turn complex requirements into automated, efficient data solutions.
- Influence platform strategy, remove blockers, and ensure strong governance.
- Optimise cloud costs through FinOps practices.
- Identify opportunities to integrate AI/ML into data workflows.
What You'll Bring
- Extensive experience building data engineering solutions on Azure.
- Strong hands‑on skills in ADF, Databricks, Python, T‑SQL and PySpark.
- Proven leadership and mentoring experience.
- Solid understanding of data governance and security tooling (Purview / Unity Catalog).
- Bonus: experience with CI/CD, automation, containerisation or Azure certifications.
