Overview
A leading UK-based Transport organisation is seeking a Contract Enterprise Architect to support a large-scale and evolving technology landscape.
The business operates across multiple service lines and supports a broad customer base, with a significant operational footprint and an increasing reliance on digital platforms and data. As part of ongoing transformation initiatives, there is a need to strengthen architectural alignment across the organisation and ensure technology investments are delivering measurable business value.
The Opportunity
This is a strategic, high-impact role with exposure to senior leadership.
You will be responsible for shaping and governing enterprise architecture in an environment that combines operational systems, customer-facing platforms, and data-driven capabilities. The organisation is delivering a range of transformation programmes aimed at modernising legacy systems, improving efficiency, and enabling better decision making through technology.
This role requires a pragmatic and commercially aware Enterprise Architect who can operate effectively across a complex landscape, providing direction, challenge, and clarity rather than purely documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and evolve enterprise architecture strategy aligned to business priorities
- Provide governance and assurance across multiple transformation initiatives
- Develop target state architectures, roadmaps, and transition plans
- Partner with senior stakeholders to influence technology direction and investment decisions
- Ensure alignment across business, data, applications, and infrastructure
- Identify opportunities to simplify and optimise the existing technology estate
- Support programme delivery through architectural guidance and decision-making
- Embed proportionate and pragmatic architecture standards and practices
Key Experience Required
- Proven experience operating as an Enterprise Architect within complex organisations
- Strong track record aligning technology strategy with business outcomes
- Experience working across multiple architecture domains
- Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders, including C-suite
- Experience in large-scale transformation or modernisation programmes
- Familiarity with architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF), applied in a practical manner
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to link technology decisions to value
Desirable
- Experience in operationally complex or multi-service organisations
- Exposure to organisations with a mix of physical operations and digital platforms
- Experience supporting major change, integration, or optimisation initiatives
- Awareness of data-led and platform-driven transformation approaches
