Quant Lead - BESS Optimisation

Location: London - Onsite
Engagement: Long-term contract through Alenia Consulting
Compensation: Highly competitive, above-market rate

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Quant Lead with proven BESS optimisation experience to build and lead the optimisation capability for a growing battery storage portfolio.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will develop production-ready optimisation models, shape trading strategies and work closely with Trading, Engineering and Asset Management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and deploy BESS dispatch and bidding optimisation models across day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets.

  • Develop MILP/LP optimisation models and revenue-stacking strategies.

  • Build battery models covering state of charge, efficiency, degradation and operating constraints.

  • Develop forecasting, backtesting and P&L attribution capabilities.

  • Establish scalable processes for onboarding new battery assets.

  • Own the quantitative roadmap and lead a growing team of quants.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience optimising live BESS assets in production - mandatory.

  • 6+ years' quantitative experience within energy trading, utilities, aggregators or BESS developers.

  • 2+ years' project or team leadership experience.

  • Strong MILP/LP and mathematical optimisation knowledge.

  • Excellent Python skills (Pandas, NumPy, Pyomo, Linopy or CVXPY).

  • Strong understanding of European power markets, including day-ahead, intraday and ancillary services.

  • Experience with optimisation solvers such as Gurobi or CPLEX.

  • Master's or PhD in a quantitative discipline.

Desirable

  • Battery degradation and warranty-aware modelling.

  • Price and imbalance forecasting using machine learning.

  • Renewable energy and hybrid asset experience.

  • Real-time or algorithmic energy trading.

  • AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker or Airflow.
