Lancaster has embarked on a new Digital Strategy, shaping the future direction of IT up to 2028. The strategy, which accelerates digital maturity across the University, will drive investment in state-of-the-art infrastructure and the capabilities within the IT organisation to deliver digital change.
By 2028 IT will be:
- A place where data not only drives our decisions but also empowers us to have unprecedented insights.
- A fully interoperable, flexible, modern estate that excites our students and staff.
- Innovation as standard, self-service at the core of all our technology services.
- Providing secure access to the data our personnel need to see in a unified way.
- Seamless access to all technology from anywhere.
- Enabling our staff and academics to identify trends and opportunities rapidly through powerful data visualisation tools.
- An IT operation that is fully agile, able to respond swiftly to the diverse demands for resource or project demands from any part of the Institution.
This is driven through 8 strategic themes, as shown in the diagram.
Strategic themes
Process Automation
Expand the use robotic process automation to streamline workflow, reduce costs and increase operational efficiency by eliminating mundane and repetitive tasks while improving user experience overall.
Data as a Strategic Asset
Through the establishment of a Master Data Management discipline across the University, utilising an Enterprise Integration Platform to centralise our data into a Business Intelligence & Analytics repository enabling enhanced data insights and data driven decision making.
Application Optimisation & Rationalisation
By evaluating each of the University’s applications to identify and eliminate duplicative functionality, we will streamline our systems and achieve cost optimisation and rationalisation of our applications.
Cloud Enablement, Security & Sustainability
Optimising agility across the University by adding scalability, flexibility and resource optimisation through cloud enablement while focusing on reducing our carbon footprint, enhancing our security realm and supporting our sustainability targets.
Improved User Experience
Leveraging modern cloud based systems, we will make it easy for users to access our systems with a single login while bolstering security and enhancing user experience.
Organising for Success
Optimising our ISS operating model to embed and develop the new capabilities and governance frameworks required to deliver the strategy and maximise the benefits of investing in our ISS capabilities.
Global Lancaster
Enabling a frictionless global one Lancaster experience for students, academics and staff regardless of their campus or location enabled through a connected and seamless global IT estate.
Human-centred Design
Building and embedding a human-centred design approach aligned with the University's strategic needs to ensure we meet the needs of all user communities (Students, Academics and Staff) while advancing the digital maturity of teaching, learning, research and enterprise operations.
